Coffee lovers find they spend a lot of money at the local coffee house, purchasing their favorite cup of espresso. These people would greatly benefit from owning their own espresso coffee machine. Of course, there are several varieties of espresso coffee machines available, which can make things very confusing.

Different Types of Espresso Coffee Machines

In order to choose the right espresso model for yourself you need to decide how much control you want over the brewing. Of course, there is a fine line between how hard the machine is to operate and how much control you want to have. Here are a few of the models of espresso coffee makers that you should consider:

Manual

The manual type is the hardest to use but once you learn how to use it you will have a great cup of espresso. Here you will have to actually fill up the porta-filter handle and compact the coffee down. Once you have done this you will need to brush away any loose grounds that may be left there and then you will need to lock the handle into place. This is not the complicated part; the complex part is pulling the handle. If you pull it at the wrong time, your espresso will not be as good as it could be. You also need to know that there is no electric pump with such an espresso maker, hence the term “manual.” This is something that you should take into consideration before making your purchase. Nevertheless, this is amongst the first type of espresso machine available for producing the beverage that so many people know and love.

Automatic

The semi automatic type is more popular because a pump is used instead of your arm. As such it is more user friendly, giving you more reliable results. So, before long you can expect to sit down to enjoy wonderful espresso.

Full automatic espresso coffee machines came onto the market just a few years ago. They are a hands- free device, which will make the perfect espresso for you. As such, this is what most professional coffee houses and cafés use.

The super automatic types of machines will take charge of your espresso making for you. Everything is programmed into the machine so that all you have to do is press a button and out comes a perfect cup of espresso. The simplicity and speed is why these machines are so popular.

My very first espresso machine was a Saeco Aroma, which is indeed an updated version of their old Classico cappuccino maker with the updates placing the machine at the head of the class in its price range. I was a little nervous when I purchased the Aroma as I’d read of the persistent leaks when frothing but was relieved to learn that the Pannarello frothing attachment had resolved all issues with leaking. After years of buying lattes and growing more dissatisfied with the taste and strength of the drinks, I decided to purchase my own machine. I wanted an affordable machine but wasn’t quite ready to make the leap to grinding my own beans. I was really interested in purchasing a machine that was made by Starbucks but could never catch it on sale. I also looked at the Rancilio Silvia and was warned that while it looked simple it’s operation was anything but. So after quite a bit of research I made the move to purchase the Aroma, especially after realizing it was indeed the Starbucks I had been looking for all along except without their brand and the extra coin on the price.

Now you’ll hear many people tell you that this machine is a starter machine. Well we all have to start somewhere, and the Aroma is as good a place (the best IMHO) as any for even the most discerning espresso drinker to brew a great shot with beautiful crema nearly every time. The Pannarello wand makes it easy to create beautiful espresso bar froth at just the right temperature. You can easily pick one of these up for $200 refurbished and sometimes pick them up for the same price new. That price is a true bargain as the machine will pay for itself in no time flat considering a venti latte from your favorite place will easily run your $4.75. I can almost guarantee you that your drinks will taste richer and fuller to you, and you don’t have to have a weekly coffee allowance to satisfy your cappuccino craving. The Saeco Aroma is ridiculously easy to use, the pressurized Pannarello wand helps the non expert froth with ease, simply turn the knob and viola. The only caveat to the ease of use of this wonderful machine, is to ensure that you allow it to fully warm and prime, as it will ensure that the milk is steamed. If you miss this step then you’ll have a water mess in your cup.

I’ve had quite a few machines since my first Aroma (and I still have my Aroma to this day), and while the super automatic machines are great for one touch convenience, the Aroma is on par with and even surpasses some of the more expensive coffee and cappuccino makers in the most important area…taste!

- Makes consistently good espresso shots with good crema
- Produces a gorgeous froth any Barista would be proud of
- Quick warms up in under 5 minutes
- Easy to view water level and refill tank
- Professional looks and comes in Black or Stainless steel
- Every part is easily available from Saeco’s online store

Whats in the name “super automatic espresso machine”? A super automatic espresso machine is an espresso machine on steroids. A super automatic takes the guesswork out of pulling the perfect espresso shot. Typically a push button machine right out of the Jetson’s kitchen. You add the beans, add the water, press the button the machine does the rest. These machines are well suited for both residential and commercial applications. Unlike earlier espresso machines that required a great deal of manual input, these new technological wonders do everything automatically.

So Much Faster

Speed is another feature that the super automatic espresso machine has to offer. In short, they will produce a shot of espresso or a cup of coffee so much quicker than a machine or maker using older technology.

Less Labor Involved

Accuracy and simplicity of operation also make this type of machine the first choice for today’s busy commercial operation. Rather than having employees grinding, measuring and tamping individual servings, these high tech wonders perform all of those tasks internally.

Minimal Waste and Spillage

This of course, completely eliminates the wast and spillage of ground coffee. Wast and spillage may not seem like a big deal now but with quality coffee prices predicted to skyrocket in the the near future, it doesn’t take a Harvard professor to calculate that the savings in waste alone can add up to possibly over a thousand dollars a year.

The Smart Choice for Commercial Operations

Then there is the actual internal engineering that goes into today’s super automatic espresso machines to consider. Quite simply, they come apart quicker for easier cleaning and go back together just as easily. So all things considered, super automatic espresso machines just make good sense in today’s busy commercial environment.

You would probably be hard pressed to find a home today that doesn’t own a coffee maker. They are in practically every kitchen. Some are nothing more than stove top percolators and some are full-fledged coffee/espresso/cappuccino makers able to churn out a latte or a cup of coffee.

The coffee maker you decide on for your kitchen should be one that matches your coffee preferences. If all you are concerned with is a good cup of coffee, a simple coffee maker will suffice. However, if you are regularly making a morning trek to the local coffee shop for an espresso, you might want to consider purchasing one for your kitchen.

There are many types of coffee makers to choose from, knowing what each one is will help greatly in making your purchase.

Drip Coffee Maker

The drip coffee maker is the one you see in most kitchens. The coffee is brewed by heating and siphoning water from a reservoir. This water is then deposited slowly into a filter basket filled with coffee grounds. The resulting coffee then drips through the filter into a decanter which sits on a heating element.

Today’s drip coffee makers can be found with a wide variety of options. The decanter is typically 8-12 cups in size and can be glass, ceramic, or even stainless steel. Your coffee maker can have a clock, an automatic timer to start brewing before you wake up, and can even have a built in grinder for the freshest ever. Most also have an auto-off option which turns the heating element off after a certain amount of time.

You can’t get more traditional in your approach to coffee brewing than by using a drip coffee maker. Introduced for home use in the 1970s, these machines work by letting water pass through coffee grounds held in a paper filter or plastic filter. The clear, light-bodied coffee then collects in a brew pot.

Single Cup Coffee Maker

These machines are among some of the newest on the market. Some are available that use regular ground coffee in a smaller filter basket yet only brew one cup at a time, while others use specialized coffee pods to brew individual cups as needed.

These coffee makers are great for people who don’t drink a lot of coffee or families that have only one coffee drinker. Another added benefit is that each person can brew their favorite coffee or flavor.

If you use the pod type brewers you will pay a premium price for the pods, making this coffee maker more expensive than other models.

Percolator

The stove top percolator may look like an antique to many people. For those who have used percolators they know that the coffee has a very different taste from drip coffee makers. This type coffee maker is very slow and alters the natural taste of coffee.

Espresso Machine

The espresso machine is the ultimate in coffee makers. However, unless you purchase a combination espresso-coffee maker you will only be making espresso. Espresso machines are wonderful for making coffee based drinks and are very quick. If you like espresso occasionally and you are a coffee drinker to; you might want to consider a combination coffee-espresso machine.

Your coffee maker is what you want it to be based on your investment. If you are a ritualistic coffee drinker who has to have that morning cup of java to get going, spend a little more money and get a machine that is going to last and that does what you want it to do. If however you only have a coffee maker so that your guests can have coffee or you only occasionally have coffee yourself, there is no need for you to make a large investment.

Are you hosting a dinner fund raiser for your favorite charity? If so, you should consider using promotional items. Promotional items will unify the entire affair, making it more visible to your guests. Promotional items will also make your fund raiser more credible, showing that you made the extra effort to solidify the event.

You can choose from all sorts of promotional items, but one promotional item that will really impress your guests are espresso mugs. When dinner is over, you don’t want your guests to just pick up and leave. You would like for them to stick around, enjoy conversations, and continue to feel like they are a part of the charity. One way to do this is by serving espresso in espresso mugs. Espresso mugs are the ultimate after dinner glassware. People can sit back, enjoy their coffee, and have leisurely conversations with each other. A nice tone to the entire event will be set once these mugs are served.

Another thing you could do at the fundraiser is auction off sets of espresso mugs. You may have bought them at wholesale and discount prices, but since your guests are at the fundraiser to raise money for the charity, they won’t mind what the cost of the mugs were to you. It really doesn’t matter these mugs are really a nice gift to anyone.

Be sure to print the logo or special design of your charity on the side of the espresso mugs. That way your charity gets promoted during the fund raiser and then after with the auction of these mugs. Once those mugs leave the fund raiser and are in the homes of your guests, your charity will continue to be promoted for many years to come. Every time someone sees those mugs, they will think of your charity and possibly feel inclined to make a donation or volunteer their time.

Espresso mugs are the perfect after dinner glassware. Not everyone drinks wine, although wine glasses are nice promotional glassware, but just about everyone enjoys a good cup of coffee. Espresso mugs are just the thing you need for a fund raising event. They are unique and simple. They come in a variety of colors and styles and you can print anything you like on them. They are durable and long lasting and will help create the memories you need in order for the fund raising to continue for your charity.

At your fund raiser, keep your guests at the event by serving espresso in espresso mugs. The longer your guests stay, the more money you will raise. Have several sets of mugs to auction off so you really can make some money for your charity. Espresso mugs are a great way of wrapping up a nice evening among your guests and fund raisers and it will make everyone feel warm and welcomed.

Like any avid, high strung coffee lover, I am always looking to enjoy my coffee with a kick by putting it through an espresso machine. Because there are so many choices, it can quickly become overwhelming when it comes time to purchase one. Here are the basics of choosing and purchasing an espresso machine.

You can break up an espresso machine into 3 basic categories. The first is the fully automatic machines. These machines will do everything for you except drink the espresso. You basically load the coffee into the machine, along with the water and filter, push the button, and walk away. These obviously are the most expensive and usually don’t have the highest quality brew.

Next we have the partially automatic machines. There actually is a hidden benefit to getting one of these that often goes overlooked. When making espresso, you can control the quality of the coffee extraction. This will give you an espresso the way you like it.

Last we have the most common type of espresso machine: the manual maker. Some avid fans need to have full control over their brewing and because of this, all they need is the machine with a handle press and they’ll make a perfect cup of joe.

There are certain qualities that you have to look for when choosing an espresso machine. First, and most important, is the quality of the brand of the maker. There are certain companies that make espresso machines that can run into the thousands of dollars. While they do make a good espresso, there are many that are comparable at a small fraction of the price.

The features that all espresso machines should always have is an integrated burr grinder, a bean hopper, preferably high capacity, a heater, a pump, and an automatic cleaning cycle. You should always look to buy a model made from stainless steel because of its durability.

The bottom line is that if you stick to the major brands of Krups, Bosch, and Capresso, you cannot go wrong.

There are all kinds of official and unofficial theories about making a perfect cup of espresso coffee. Some argue that a Moka pot on top of a stove creates the best results, and many more insist that they electric espresso makers yield optimal beverages. Quite often people debate about the water to coffee ratio or the proper way to “tamp” the grounds into the filter. Now, there is an almost fool proof way to create flawless cups or pots of espresso, and it comes with little to no measuring and is incredibly easy to clean up as well.

This is the espresso pods approach to brewing up hot and potent drinks, and they are available for a wide array of machines. Espresso pods are exactly what they sound like – small packets of pre-measured and tamped espresso coffee grounds that are intended to be used in compatible machines. They are made by a number of different coffee specialty companies, but they all share a few characteristics. Most are made with premium blends ideally suited for espresso drinking or for beverages made with espresso as their base. They are all ground specifically for espresso brewers and machines, and wrapped in filter papers that will not impact the flavor or quality of the drink.

In addition to their remarkable convenience and the guaranteed quality of the espresso due to its packaging, another benefit to using them is their high level of consistency where every single cup or pot is concerned. A cook could make three or four pots in a row, and each single sip would taste as perfect as all of the previous brewing.

Once a cook makes a single serving of traditional espresso they usually have a small mess to handle thanks to the fine coffee grounds that have to be dealt with. The machine clean up can also be a problem if loose grounds flow through the various tubes and seals as well. Espresso pods entirely eliminate any of the mess because they are sealed packets that prevent the grounds from making any sort of spills.

There are some limitations where espresso pods are concerned, however, and the primary one is the fact that they must be used only with the machines for which they were designed. Currently, a consumer could find many cross-machine compatible pods, but it is vitally important to make sure that any choice will work with the machine in a home or business to ensure safety. (Remember that most espresso and cappuccino machines work under serious pressure and if a seal is not aligned due to a misshapen pod it could cause damage or even injury.)

Because espresso brewing can often be just as much art as science the espresso pods can remove a lot of the difficult parts of the process. For example, by eliminating most of the measuring, clean up, and prep time, a cook could create all kinds of hot or cold drinks with consistent results. They could also know that the controlled environment in which their espresso pods are packaged could greatly prolong the shelf life of their coffee supply.

Espresso pots are stovetop espresso makers that are sometimes referred to as percolators or Moka pots. Moka is a brand name that is made by the Bialetti Company. This company is named after the inventor of the stovetop espresso pot.

The espresso pot uses steam pressure to force water upwards through a metal strainer containing finely ground coffee. This forces the espresso into the top of the pot and ready for your enjoyment. The espresso produced won’t be as good as what you get at a café or with an espresso maker but it is an inexpensive alternative. The crema that is normally on an espresso also won’t be there but there is a method of creating it that is described here also.

<B>How to Use an Espresso Pot</B>

Make sure you have your coffee beans finely ground, sugar, and your espresso pot.

Fill your espresso pot with cold water in the bottom chamber. There should be a mark inside the pot to show you how far to fill, if not, fill up to the valve. When you put the strainer basket in the espresso pot, water should not come through it. This will create an undesired flavor in your espresso.

Next, fill the strainer with your finely ground coffee. Make sure to wipe the outside of the strainer if any coffee gets on it or it will wind up in your espresso. Insert the assembly into the pot and make sure you have a good seal. If the seal is not tight, check your espresso pot, the rubber gasket may need to be replaced.

Notes: a good seal is vital to or the water will spew when it starts to boil. Also, do not pack the coffee grounds down tightly like you would with an espresso machine. You do not tamp the grounds in an espresso pot.

Assemble the pot and place over a low heat source or flame. The lower the flame or heat, the longer the brewing time which in turn increases the flavor of the espresso. You don‘t want to rush your espresso.

The next steps are not totally necessary but do create a nice foam that mimics the crema you get from espresso makers.

While the espresso pot is doing its magic, add sugar to a mixing container, about a teaspoon per cup of espresso. Next, as quickly as you notice espresso coming into the pot; pour some into the mixing container with the sugar. Don’t add too much, it is better to add too little than to add too much.

Begin stirring the sugar-espresso mixture until you get a mixture similar to a thin peanut butter. You can add a little more espresso if necessary.

When the espresso finishes brewing pour half of it into the mixing container with the sugar mixture. Begin stirring quickly to create a foamy top. Once this is mixed pour the rest of the espresso from the pot into the mixing container and stir quickly again.

This process takes practice but will produce a nice thick foam similar to crema. Pour your end product into heated espresso cups. You can use a spoon to dip the foam out and into the cups. Drink before it cools for the flavor.

Making espresso with a stove top espresso pot is not difficult. It takes practice to get the foam head correct but the taste is worth the time. An espresso pot is a great way to enjoy an occasional espresso without making a lifetime investment in an espresso machine. It is also an easy way to have your espresso even while on a camping trip. Practice makes perfect.

To begin with there are several common errors made when it comes to Espresso coffee .

There are many true or false statements made about this most favored drink. Here are some of the more common misconceptions.

Mostly people are used to pronounce the world Espresso as Expresso.

-There is a general belief that there is a Coffee plant species known as Espresso, which is not true. It is made from the conventional green coffee bean after its has gone through its prepatory stages for consumption.

- Lots of people feel that if they keep their coffee in the freezer they will get a much more superior cup of espresso. This is not true and in fact can produce an inferior cup of what should be superior coffee. The cold makes the oils that are in the coffee beans coagulate. It’s these very oils that produce the wonderful taste of espresso coffee and you don’t want to weaken them with coagulation.

-Many individuals that have a great love for this beverage will often do it an injustice by serving it in the wrong amounts or in a large mug. Some are of the opinion that coffee is usually served in small coffees because it is so potent. This is not the case. Espresso coffee is at its best when it is able to retain its heat. That is the very purpose of the small cups. In the larger cups the heat dissipates too quickly. When this happens, the foam is also lost and the overall aroma of the espresso suffers. Ideally, the coffee espresso should be served in 1-2oz cups and the cup should be thick china, which helps to hold the heat.

A cup of our favorite coffee drink Espresso Coffee is made possible by proper and absolute preparation of its ingredients.

All too often first time triers of espresso coffee develop a dislike for it assuming it’s the variety of coffee that they are not partial to. In many cases it’s because it has not been prepared correctly that has made for an inferior quality. Ideally, to be fair before passing judgment on the espresso one should try it at a location that has a reputation for presenting excellence in this beverage. Italy is the country where you can find the best Espresso to taste and drink.

It’s a fallacy to think that because one enjoys a good Arabica coffee that they are going to enjoy it in all of the variations in which it is used. As we have shown, the taste and characters that are brought out vary in the way in which it is prepared. Perhaps these are not the most noted characteristics that you enjoy the most. So if you have tried a coffee variation made with Arabica coffee don’t form the opinion that you do not like the coffee itself, it’s simply that you don’t care for that version of it.
