Saeco S-PR-SG Primea Ring Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

Amazon.com Product Description

Blending simplicity with state-of-the-art technology, this super-automatic espresso machine provides an array of convenient features. Its easy-to-use click wheel interface allows for scrolling through and selecting each menu option on the display with just a slight touch of the click wheel. And thanks to its exclusive, integrated Touch2Cappuccino system, it can prepare two cappuccinos or two latte macchiatos at the same time. The system consists of a milk container placed directly inside the machine; milk gets drawn from the container, frothed internally, and then dispensed into the cup.

In addition, its Saeco Brewing System (SBS) technology allows for making an infinite variety of coffee beverages from just one fully automatic machine and at the mere twist of a knob. Choose from an intense Italian ristretto (turn the knob to the right) or an American-style long coffee (turn the knob to the left). SBS satisfies all tastes, giving a full flavor and a truly unique creamy layer. Furthermore, the coffee dose in the extraction chamber can be fully manipulated, due to the pressure, which remains constant throughout the extraction cycle.

The espresso machine’s ceramic grinder delivers a consistent grind and allows for perfect dosing and blending, while its Rapid Steam technology reduces the normal waiting time between coffee brewing and steam output to just a few seconds. Froth milk to make cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiato coffee at the simple turn of the steam knob. Other highlights include a drip tray that can be easily raised or lowered manually or electrically with a simple touch, allowing for different cup sizes; nanotechnology, which substantially facilitates the cleaning process and guarantees that all components in contact with milk are perfectly clean; a 68-ounce removable water tank; and an Aqua Prima water filter to remove impurities from water for improved coffee taste and protection from limescale damage. The 1500-watt espresso machine measures 18 by 14 by 15 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Product Description

What sets the Primea Ring apart from most household super automatics is the machine’s ability to do more than just make espresso. Featuring 2 front spouts that can both dispense coffee and milk, the Primea Ring can froth and brew into 2 cups at the same time, giving you the possibility of making 2 drinks simultaneously–even lattes or cappuccinos. The Primea Ring’s click-wheel dial lets you scroll through 8 drink choices, so you can choose from hot milk, hot water, espresso, coffee, long coffee, espresso macchiato, cappuccino or latte macchiato. Featuring a sleek, simple control dial and the ability to make 2 cappuccinos or lattes simultaneously, the Primea Ring is one of the most capable home espresso machines on the market. Featuring today’s popular technological styling, the Primea Ring features a click-wheel control interface to make navigating through the different features as simple as using an iPod. Simply use your finger to scroll through the machine’s menu options. As you scroll, the Primea’s controls are displayed on the digital display above the dial, and you can enter any setting just by pressing the coffee cup in the center of the dial. The Primea is designed to create your choice of 8 different drinks, from traditional espressos, to cappuccinos and lattes. Grinding, tamping, brewing and frothing are fully automatic, and the Primea Ring has a built-in milk container so there’s no rubber hose traveling across your counter. For increased durability and efficiency, the Primea is equipped with a stainless steel boiler and Saeco’s Rapid Steam system, so the machine can brew espresso, and froth or steam without wait time in between. With a range of other premium features, like a motorized, removable drip tray and an actively heated cup warmer, the Primea Ring delivers great-tasting results with unmatched convenience and style.

Yes, this machine is very expensive. I was lucky enough to get it at a very very good price when amazon temporarily reduced the price, otherwise no way I would spend so much on something like this….

Anyway, this thing is quite simply awesome. My wife and I are now addicted to coffee :-) Latte machiatos and cappuccinos in the morning, espresso in the evening, hot milk for our daughter too!

The machine is totally automated, it will tell you when to clean it, when to add stuff, it will keep your cups warm, and did I mention it makes wonderful coffee? You can personalize how you want each of the different coffee drinks to come out, stronger, hotter, more robust. You can double the quantity of coffee coming out. It will accommodate various cup sizes, from espresso cups to large coffee cups. Did I mention it makes wonderful espresso/coffee :-)

Now the negatives: the machine is rather large so make sure you have the space for it, figure about a 1′X1′ footprint of counter space, but it looks very modern and high tech. You do have to keep it clean, certain things have to be done about 15 minutes after your first cup (if you use the cappuccitore to make milk based drinks) but that is understandable as you want to make sure the milk doesn’t start clogging everything. The water reservoir is not very large (you can get about 6 cups of coffee out of it) considering the size of the machine. You do have to learn to navigate the touch sensitive ring to get to what you want, I can imagine some people finding it frustrating. The machine does seem to have a lot of moving internal parts, when you use it you hear all kinds of mechanical noises in there, it makes you wonder how long that internal mostly plastic apparatus, called the Brew Group, will last; it’s the heart of the machine. I am now drinking more coffee than ever!!!

All in all this thing is awesome, I hope it lasts a long time!

I purchased this machine about 4 months ago, and it has been nothing but great!

I have never owned a machine like this before, and I had the usual “get over the hump of the learning curve” sorts of problems at first(even though the machine is fairly easy to use), but now I LOVE IT!

Now that I have learned the proper maintenance routine (it is just a simple routine which is very easy once you get used to it), and I have learned the little nuances of the machine programs and the milk foaming sorts of issues that anyone can have (most of the issues with improper milk foaming were only because I wasn’t really keeping it properly cleaned!) it is a wonderful addition to our daily life.

I make Cappuccinnos every morning now without all of the usual crazy routine of trying to steam the milk manually with a steam wand (which is what most machines have attached) and usually getting LOUSY results. Now every morning they are perfect! I can also make my wife a Cappucinno, and make myself a cup of regular coffee every morning without any real hassle. It only takes a few minutes (after I figured out the routine to clean the milk circuit on the machine easily and quickly after the morning Cappuccinnos it made it really easy).

When we have friends over for dinner, it is also very easy to make all sorts of drinks (even a few decafs) to fit every person’s preference. ( and they always turn out perfect!)

Since the machine is progammable, it was easy for me to set it up to our drink taste preferences, and easy to adjust the volumes to make the drinks fit into our favorite size cups for different types of coffee drinks. (my wife has a different type cup for every kind of drink, I think)

Also, I love STRONG coffee, and it makes the best cup of morning coffee I have ever tasted, without all of the fooling around with the “making the pot of coffee in the morning” routine and mess.

It has definately made our lives more enjoyable, and easier every day. And….I bet I have saved a lot of money not buying things at Starbucks on the way to work (not to forget the time and frustration saved by not standing in line at Starbuck’s) since we can make whatever we want every day at home!

Again, I think the money spent was well-spent and will save us enough to make it a real bargain in the long run. This is a well made, quality machine that is easy to learn to use, and easy to get excellent results from in a short amount of time. I would strongly recommend this type of Saeco machine to anyone.
