From the Manufacturer
The Avanti Carafe features the AlfiDur vacuum hard glass liner, high-quality polypropylene “frosted” surface, and one-hand operation. The double-walled AlfiDur vacuum hard glass liner keeps hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. Before assembly each glass liner undergoes an operational test. Other outstanding features include:
- The hinged lid provides single-hand operation and is food safe.
- The twin-walled AlfiDur toughened hard glass liner creates a vacuum between the walls, allowing neither heat nor cold to escape; 100-percent performance tested.
- The seal prevents the escape of radiant heat.
- The body of the flask is comprised of high-quality raw materials e.g. copper and brass. Top quality is achieved by hand craftsmanship.
- The seals/screw fittings are food-safe and quality-tested. Each part can be replaced or repaired.
The Designer
The designer responsible the Alfi Avanti Carafe, Julian Brown, has led quite a distinguished career. He studied mechanical engineering and industrial design at the Royal College of Art, where he also works today as an external teacher of industrial design. His characteristic formal style has been greatly influenced by periods spent in Japan, Austria, and Berlin. A style which numerous companies around the world regard highly, and which he has given expression to quite brilliantly in his product creations as many international design awards go to prove. Julian Brown has already demonstrated his talent for Alfi numerous times. The result is the vacuum jug Pump & Go plus the two award-winning designs Basic and La Ola. They demonstrate the fruitful fusion of quality and innovation. Julian Brown’s own words about La Ola: “The La Ola design is outstanding for its simplicity, and the principle of the wave just waiting to be discovered.”

I make a full pot of coffee (12 cups) in the morning and use it over two days by keeping it in the Alfi Avanti Carafe. The Avanti holds 10 cups and does a good job keeping the contents warm. I usually heat my poured cup of coffee in the microwave because no thermos keeps it as hot as I like it. The screw-on lid is a little difficult to use, but there is a convenient trigger on it for pouring, so you only have to fight with the screw cap when filling or emptying the carafe. The Danish design looks great. I prefer the colbalt blue because it does not show coffee stains like the lighter colors do. It’s best to use a bottle brush with some baking soda and dish detergent and let it soak overnight. You cannot put it in the dishwasher.
most recent blog entriesA neighbor loaned me her $200.00 fancy, silver Alfi carafe while I was recuperating from surgery and needed to keep ice water on a third floor to avoid the stairs. I had no idea it cost so much until I tried to find one. You can get it from Sonoma if you are so motivated.
HOWEVER, for under $30.00 you can get this amazing carafe that works just as well. This model keeps water cold for days—I swear. The ice was still floating around in the bottom of the carafe, keeping the ice chilled after three days!!! I presume that it does the same excellent job for hot beverages. How have I lived without this? I have hot flashes and an ICE COLD swig of water in the middle of the night or in the early morning is mighty fine.
It is perfect for keeping beverages hot or cold in your office or anyplace you want something just as you like it when you want it and don’t want to keep refilling.
Alfi are made in Germany. The craftsmanship is top-notch and it works like a dream.
The top is a bit fussy, but as the person said you twist it on once and it’s over. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad. Plus, it could be days before you have to do it again, if you’re doing a cold, stable beverage like water or ice tea. I hadn’t even figured out the one-handed trigger until I read one of the reviews, and I still loved it. Once it’s filled you can use one hand to pour your favorite hot or cold beverage.
most recent blog entriesI love this carafe, but wanted an 80 ounce carafe. That is why I ordered 3 of them. The first one arrived, and was only 46 ounces. (1.3 liters) I called customer service to alert them of the “mistake”, and returned the carafe for an 80 ounce one as advertised.
The next two shipped out, and they were also 46 ounces. I again called customer service, and then, after research re: Alfi carafs…discovered that they do not make an 80 ounce (2.5 liter) carafe.
I asked customer service to change the heading on this item, but it still reads “80 ounce”. I will keep these for gifts, but just be aware that you will NEVER get an 80 ounce carafe.
